Meet Barbara Ann, she was a Fitness League member years ago when there used to be a class in Browns Bay. Cut to many years later with lifestyle changes taking her away from classes, Barbara rejoined our FLexercise classes 5 years ago.Even being house bound due to the covid restrictions Barbara was able to keep doing classes thanks to her teacher’s class videos. During these restrictions Barbara shared the classes with her neighbours, several of whom are also FLexercise members.
From her balcony Barbara followed the videos and guided the class to her neighbours who were also out on their balconies.
This gave her the practice and confidence to lead others through a FLexercise class and you can too!
There are steps you can take to prepare becoming a class leader. This includes standing alongside and shadowing your class teacher for a few classes, then going solo and leading one or two routines you know particularly well. This enables you to build your confidence being in front of everyone. Barbara has been able to use her teacher’s class videos as she leads class as support, which is another option. Knowing the routines and building your confidence on stage is where it starts.
Why become a class teacher? Well, you never know when there could be one of those unfortunate circumstances and your teacher is unable to make it along to class. Instead of cancelling the class, the class can go ahead with you leading the way.
The best part about it is having the class members understanding, support and appreciation that the class can continue.
You know the sayings ‘Try something that scares you’ or ‘it’ is outside the comfort zone is where the magic happens’ and also ‘there is no time like the present’.
