During our New Zealand winter, it is tempting to curl up indoors, sip big bowls of pumpkin soup and binge-watch your favourite TV shows. Wonderful but for only a short time.
Most of us admit that hibernating for long periods can become a bit boring. We begin to feel sluggish, and everything seems to creak and groan when we get up off the couch.
When you realise you want to keep moving, the first principle is always – just get up, get active and it will motivate you. We have all had that feeling when we feel so much better after exercising.

Exercise that feels good for you
If you love exercising in fresh air, rug up and get your circulation pumping with a brisk walk outside. Just get up and get out there. Embrace everything the New Zealand winter throws at you.

FLexercise classes are run inside community centres, where you’re protected from the elements. Your trained instructor will have you warmed up before you know it.
You’ll strengthen, stretch and improve your balance, mobility and agility to give you the power to live the life you choose.
FLexercise with friends
When the days are shorter and colder we all tend to spend more time at home or rush from work to the car and back indoors again. Sometimes it can feel like many days have gone by since we last caught up with friends. Making space for social exercise in your weekly routine is a great way to keep in touch with one another and prevent feelings of winter isolation.
Once you have given your heart and circulation a good FLexercise workout, there’s always the opportunity to catch up with everyone over coffee. Socialising together became a tradition way back when FLexercise was known as The Women’s League of Health and Beauty. It was such a great idea that it is now an essential part of FLexercise classes.
Exercise boosts immunity
With winter comes coughs, colds and flu, and it is widely recognised that regular exercise boosts our immune system. The reputable New Zealand information source Health Navigator discusses how exercise improves our energy levels and immunity.
When we keep fit we may not completely avoid catching winter ailments, but we are less likely to get seriously ill and more likely to bounce back faster.
